New Trip Report: Guinea

Adam Jakab sent me mammalwatching.com’s first report from Guinea. He only spent two hours in the Pinselly Forest looking for mammals but it was productive.

Pinselly Classified Forest, 2015: Adam Jakab, 2 hours and 5 species including Chimpanzee and Diana Monkey.

I’m still worried about Ebola, safety concerns, difficult travel conditions, and lack of infrastructure but someday I’ll do Sierra Leone, Liberia, and Guinea. Too many amazing mammals out there – I’d love to see Diana Monkey, Pygmy Hippo, Nimba Otter Shrew, Zebra and Jentink’s Duikers, and (I dream) Liberian Mongoose…

Ebola is no longer a serious concern (your chances of dying from malaria are much higher). I’ll have ten free days in Europe this summer (starting in Athens) and tried to find cheap tickets to Liberia, but they are ridiculously expensive, and there’s no time to fly to another country and travel overland.
