Mammals in the News

A couple of newspapers picked up some spectacular mammal action this past week: Paris Match had this slideshow of a Crocodile’s foolish attempt to take on an Elephant, while the UK’s Daily Mail had some pictures of Wild Dogs having a go at a Waterbuck/Lechwe.

Australian scientists have added a new Rock Wallaby to the national list (thankfully I have seen both this species and the one it was split from), and perhaps its survival in Western Australia will be helped by some promising news of a poison bait that cats will actually eat.

There was also a report of a couple of newly discovered mammals that lived alongside the Dinosaurs, perhaps if they had screamed at predators as loudly as Lemmings do they would still be with us today.
