New River Dolphin Species

Apparently there’s a new species of Boto in the Amazon. Anyone seen it?

  1. Splits based exclusively on mitochondrial DNA differences should be simply ignored. This method has already been shown to be meaningless.

  2. Plus the morphological differences they cite are basically on the scale of mm, with no statistical tests and only two measurements showing any difference

    Be that as it may, I had a fantastic encounter with the species in 2000 at Barra do Gar├žas/Aragar├žas Brazil (Border of Goias and Matto Grosso do Sul). We went with a fisherman up river a short way and were surrounded by Boto–far far from the Amazon and amazingly near “civilization”.
