Some stories/blogs that might be of interest to mammal watchers:
The global conservation site Mongabay often has mammal stories. A couple of recent ones: Pangolins imperiled by Internet trade and Miller’s grizzled langurs rediscovered in Borneo. In the shameless self promotion department, Mongabay also did an interview with me as part of its series on environmental bloggers.
Mule deer origins: Interesting piece on mule deer genetics, and whether the black-tailed deer should be a separate species.
Camera Trap Codger: This is a great blog, well worth frequenting. Lots of good photos of unusual animals, often in California. Recent entries include fisher, Sonoma tree vole, mountain beaver and Trowbridge shrew. Lots of good stuff.
A couple of my recent columns: high fences and conservation and taking kids tracking for wildlife.

I think the most striking news of the week is that Nancy Black, the operator of the world’s best whalewatching tours, is facing twenty years in prison, and the charges are the most stupid I’ve ever heard of: http://www.economist.com/node/21542772?fsrc=scn%2Ftw%2Fte%2Far%2Fanotheroneinthenet
I worked with Nancy for a year about 8 years ago. Of all WW operators I’ve seen (and I’ve seen a lot of them), she was the one most meticulously following the rules. Apparently, one of her competitors tipped the authorities using her own video as evidence.

There is now a campaign in her support, but whatever the result is, she’s been forced to pay two lawyers for six years, so she is practically bankrupt and had to stop all research.

I really like the Langur pics from Borneo, awesome what species come across the camera in that ‘wedea wild’ video at the bottom, binturong, clouded leopard, marbled cat!
