Opossum ID
opossum in Llanos, Colombia
I know this is a long shot, but I saw this opossum in a dead tree in the Llanos region of Colombia on a recent trip. Any ideas on species? If you look closely, you can see it has large fangs that protrude. The locals say it has a very dark body. I know it’s not a good picture but the opossum was secure in the tree.

Looks like Didelphis marsupialis to me. This species is common, seen about 50% of nights I’ve been out shining in the Venezuelan Llanos.

I concur with your previous commentator. By the dark line down the center of the pale face and the dark eyes (instead of the light eyes and yellowish pelt of Caluromys philander), I don’t see which other species it could be than Didelphis marsupialis.
